Review by Sean Penn: writer, actor, world stage
Jun 23I was a big fan of the nerd growing up, came across a copy of the book and figured I’d give it a shot.
I didn’t love it. If you’re a big fan of the nerd, it’ll be okay but I’d say temper your expectations. This is all about James, and while I only really cared about the last half of the book, there’s some really interesting tid bits.
The main problem is James idea of what we should care about is few and far between. We spend a long time on his childhood and photos of that era and it was not for me. But my god, he’s actually achieved a lot with the kind of limitations he ended up growing up with.
I just kinda find him obnoxious, boasting about his 93 movies! When he meets Mike, his movies honestly kinda sucked. He’s a guy who luck stuck his way into content creation. He is however forever stuck as the nerd. I keep wondering when or how it’ll end.
