It’s surprising to read the book, that lead to play, the lead to the silent movie, that lead to the feature length movie, that lead to the spinoff prequel book, that lead to the play, that lead to the two part film adaptation.
125 years has passed between the writing of the book and my review. I have vague memories reading the book when I was in 4th grade but I don’t think I finished it. I think I was more gobsmacked by the amount of sequels more than everything.
I’m surprised in reading this how much is the same but different than the movie. I think the changes were necessary for the most part. There’s heavy use of repetition in the book. There’s only so many times I can reread passages that talk about how the crew went and met with the wizard.
