Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

Everyone knows the out come, but Doris Kearns Goodwin delivers the insight to Lincoln, his wife, and his administration.  I just can't express just how good this book is.  Everyone should read it; we'd all learn a lot about life, history, and an uncompromised leader at the nations most difficult period.

Flowers for Algernon should be required reading for everybody. Maybe even required to be read every 10 years or so. And I am totally against the concept of "required reading."

The book was somewhat basic but did provide interesting facts and ideas about major innovations. At the conclusion of each chapter. Steven Johnson seemed to be trying too hard to convince us of his stance. All in all, it was informative for a quick read.

Meyer does an excellent job giving background about various aspects about the war, including the different empires and cultures, the technological and economic conditions, everyday life and a host of other very interesting concepts that are often omitted or forgotten.

The book provides a very good perspective about cultural differences in a part of the world we know so little about.

Interesting topics and assumptions, but it gets carried away, and a bit boring after a few of the topics.

Good read about the pirates, both fact and fiction. It was repetitive in many parts, seemingly trying to make for a bigger book.

Quick and easy read that pretty much tells you what you already know about starting and staying with new projects, concepts, ideas, etc.

Excellent account of early scientists and emerging philosophers, - how they developed the disciplines and brought about new discoveries - and then interlaced with the literary giants of the time, Shelley, Byron, Keats, etc. A rather slow read, but well worth the time.

A sometimes difficult read, but full of interesting concepts that help open your eyes about luck, numbers, probability and other counter intuitive thoughts.

Although it was an interesting read and I am happy I finished it, it has too much superfluous information that seemed to come from no where and not really and not add additional information as to his life, character, or hardships.
