Subtle Blood

Subtle Blood

Man. I could not love these books more.

I was worried the third book in a trilogy, in which the characters are already in an established relationship, would be boring - but Subtle Blood has a strong, interesting plot, and once things got moving (which was quite early on) I wasn't bored for a second. I just love these two so much, how they work together and complement each other. It's wonderful to see their relationship develop and the trust between them grow throughout the books.

I really appreciate that KJ Charles avoids the obnoxious trope of preventable misunderstandings - there were a few times when Will might have done that, but instead checked himself and realized he should discuss things with Kim instead of assuming anything, which is super refreshing.

These two are great, and I absolutely adore Kim in particular. I think the single POV helps this series immensely; it would be a very different trilogy seen through Kim's eyes, especially the first two books, where we as readers get to know him at the same time Will does.

The discussion of feelings throughout the book was really romantic and lovely, and this relationship, by the end, feels balanced and healthy to me.

KJ Charles is a wonderful writer. Each book in this trilogy was a 5-star read for me and I highly recommend it.
