Jun 26The way MC2 (the older MC, Lawson) treats MC1 pisses me off.
MC1, a stripper who is deeply concerned about having enough material possessions because of a rough childhood, undergoes a lot of character development and sacrifices a lot by the end of the book. And at 96%, this is how MC2 is thinking of him. (Note that Ms. Cluck, who MC1 (Opie) considers a pet, has been established as the stupidest chicken on the ranch.)
Awkward moment. Grant tried to stammer a response while Opie tried to separate himself from Grant while still handcuffed to him. Now I understood why he and Ms. Cluck got along so well together. They shared a brain.
…Excuse me?
Not to mention that just before this scene takes place, MC1 literally sold all his possessions to save MC2’s struggling ranch - and MC2 is still referring to him as sharing a brain with a chicken? What the fuck?
It's not just this scene - the whole relationship really rubbed me the wrong way. MC2 hides things from MC1, at one point ghosts him, disregards his good suggestions (and in one case they almost die because of it!!!) and just overall does not treat MC1 with the respect he deserves. It doesn't matter if he does some of these things because he thinks he doesn't deserve MC1! He's not being a good partner!! And every time they need to talk things out they just start having sex again instead, which is frustrating. I feel like I want to be their relationship counselor or something, because the whole thing feels unhealthy when I'm pretty sure it's not actually supposed to.
On top of all that, MC2 discovers he has a fetish of having his partner act like a sex doll and just lie there and take it which could be hot in a different context, but here it's just the icing on the cake because of how poorly he treats MC1 in other aspects of the relationship too. Like, I'm glad MC1 is into that, but the whole thing kinda skeeves me out lol.
Justice for Opie! I wish he'd found a better guy - and that has absolutely nothing to do with how much money Lawson has.
