Berserk, Vol. 1

Berserk, Vol. 1

Review for the whole series

I liked the art a lot. Every panel looks and feels like it was painstakingly drawn. I can see how Berserk shaped the manga industry as a whole.

Unfortunately, I can’t say the same for the story. Griffith is practically a god in the later volumes. What’s the point of anything if you have such an overpowered villain? It’s not even like superman. He literally doesn’t have any weaknesses. Every action by Guts seems inconsequential and hopeless when Griffith can just swoop in out of nowhere and defeat him without even trying. That completely ruins the narrative.

I did enjoy the character interactions between the group members on the ship.

But for me, that didn’t manage to save the manga, especially given it’s so plot focused.
