Jan 26The Martian by Andy Weir is an engaging science fiction novel that tells the gripping story of Mark Watney, an astronaut stranded on Mars after a failed mission. Left behind by his crew, Mark must use his ingenuity, resourcefulness, and engineering skills to survive the harsh Martian environment with limited supplies.
This science in this leans heavily. Clearly showcasing the 'science' in science-fiction.
One of the highlights of the book is its portrayal of teamwork and human perseverance. The collaboration between Mark and the NASA team back on Earth, as well as the support from his crew, showcases the power of collective effort and determination. If only humanity could actually be like that....I guess that’s the 'fiction' part in this science-fiction.
Mark is quite the wise-ass, I can't help but find him humorous and likable and hoping his MacGyvering works-out. But that’s not all he is, the bravery and fortitude he displays is something to reflect on.
Overall, The Martian is a thrilling and inspiring read, definitely worth checking out.
